Enjoy Fresh Produce with a Fall Garden

View from above of fall garden vegetables spread out on a flat surface.

Nothing tastes better than fresh fruits and vegetables grown in your own garden! Just because summer is coming to a close, doesn’t mean the taste of fresh produce has to!

Whether you were too busy to plant and take care of a garden this summer or love fresh produce so much that you want to continue to enjoy it through the fall, now is the time to plant your own fall garden!

Don’t wait to start planting. While many vegetables are hardy enough to withstand cooler temperatures, they still need some hot days to help them mature before the first frost, which makes August and early September the perfect time to get your garden started.

Get Creative with a Container Garden

Don’t have the space to create a garden in your backyard or don’t want to go to all the work of tilling a plot? No problem! Try creating a container garden instead. Planting flowers and vegetables in large pots or containers makes managing your garden easy, plus it adds some beauty to your yard!

Allow your creativity to flow by creating beautiful pots that are both functional and gorgeous. Mix and match grass, colorful foliage, gourds, and flowers in addition to veggies in a pot to create a colorful and fun garden.  Here are some fun plant ideas to make your container garden pop:

  • Chrysanthemums
  • Marigolds
  • Pansies
  • Helenium
  • Asters
  • Lamb’s Ear
  • Ornamental Cabbage
  • Switch Grass
  • Swiss Chard
  • Little Bluestem

With an endless amount of flowers and vegetables, fall gardens can be both beautiful and bountiful. Enjoy all that fall has to offer by planting your own garden. And while you are at it, do yourself a favor and plant some spring flower bulbs to enjoy down the road.
